What is a cosmetic product?

A cosmetic product must comply with the definition stated by the European Directive “Cosmetics” and by the French Public Health Code (article L5131-1). “Cosmetic products” are defined as care substances used to enhance the appearance or odor of the human body. This definition covers a number of daily products aimed to improve hygiene, health, appearance and well-being: soap, shower gel, deodorants, toothbrushes, make-up, facial creams, shampoo,…
Beyond the legal definition above, a cosmetic product can also be a real care product. Unlike a medical product, cosmetic products have an esthetic goal rather than therapeutic. They correct certain imperfections such as wrinkles and pimples. They must be handled with care because they can sometimes trigger allergic reactions. In any case, a cosmetic product can not treat skin diseases.

What is the difference between the skin of men and women?

On the cellular level, there is no difference between men and women. But, men’s skin is much thicker than that of women.
Even though many brands have used this argument for marketing purposes, this difference has no influence on the effectiveness of a cosmetic product. Moreover, in medicine, there is no dermatological creme that distinguishes female and male skin based on this factor.
The difference between men and women is in the overall metabolic (i.e. hormonal) functioning of the human body that causes changes to the skin.

For women, estrogen gives softer skin and less developed body hair. In contrast, for men, testosterone produces a much more developed body hair and the production of sebum which makes men’s skin much thicker.

What are the specific needs of men’s skin?

Men’s skin is almost assaulted daily by shaving.
The skin therefore needs products that soothe the micro lesions caused by shaving.
Moreover, sebum is the natural cosmetic ingredient of the skin. It protects the skin from dehydration, which is why men do not need to moisturize and nourish the skin as much as women. However, the production of sebum decreases with age.
Around the age of 50, men discover the discomfort of dry skin and turn to nourishing cosmetic products.

What role do hormones play in the aging of the skin?

No hormones, no life! Unfortunately, over time, the production of hormones by the human body decreases and aging then begins.
In the case of women, hormone levels remain fairly stable until menopause, and then drops sharply, causing sudden aging. This is why the hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) has shown spectacular results.

In the case of men, the phenomenon of menopause does not exist. Instead, from the age of 30, their hormone levels decrease by 2% per year, which makes the aging of the skin much more gradual. Hormones are responsible for skin tone or, in scientific terms, its density. As skin ages, it collapses, like a sheet on a deflating mattress: hormones have left the mattress. When we introduce hormones in the skin, the mattress inflates, and complexion is brightened and the wrinkles are filled.

What is an “all-in-one“ skin care product?

It is a product that has multiple functions such as moisturizer, action against redness, anti-aging properties and repairs the micro lesions caused by shaving.
Integrall acts both against aging and on comfort.

How can one product act in different ways (moisturizer, protection, repair, toning,..)?

A product may contain several different active ingredients which fulfill different functions. For example, one can sooth the razor burns and another can block the evaporation of water to prevent the skin from drying and another can act against the effects of hormonal aging.
All these active ingredients have been tested together: they are compatible, complementary, and have no harmful interaction.

Why are there no all-in-one products for women?

There are! For example, an anti-aging cream often also serves as moisturizer.
But marketing studies have shown that women strongly believe in the specificity of each product, and that they were attached to that concept.

What are the differences between cosmetic products for men and women?

Until now, none! It’s all about packaging: black, brown, navy blue or red for men, cooler and light colors for women. The active ingredients are the same. Men and women can without any problems use the same products. The doses may sometimes vary (i.e. the “form” of the product): cream, gel, lotion…Manufacturers have long known that men prefer liquids and women prefer creams. It’s all a question of gesture…

Integrall is the first product specifically for men. It’s the only product on the market that will not have the same effects whether it is applied on the skin of men or women.

Can women use Integrall?

They can do it without any problems. They will reap the same moisturizing and nourishing benefits as men. But to the extent that production of testosterone in women is about 60% of that of men, the anti-aging properties of Integrall would have no effect on the skin of women. In addition, women do not need an aftershave, and prefer the texture of creams which makes Integrall a product that is not suitable to their habits and tastes. Moreover, its active ingredient has specifically been designed for men; the spray formula in particular is a more manly gesture. Laboratoires Didier Rase have developed Integrall by putting themselves a 100% in the “skin” of a man

What is Phyto-androzyme?

Phyto-androzyme is a natural plant active ingredient extracted from magnolia bark.
Its name comes from the Greek “phyto” which means “natural plant” and “andro” which refers to man. The suffix “zyme” was added to reflect its action on enzymes.

What is its action on the testosterone?

Inside the human body, certain enzymes attach themselves to the male hormone (testosterone) to destroy it.
Laboratoires Didier Rase stated a hypothesis that by introducing a decoy, the enzymes would attack the decoy instead of the male hormone and fewer hormones would thereby be eliminated.
The effectiveness of Phyto-androzyme on male skin after 20 days of use has been proven through a clinical study conducted following rigorous medical research criteria.

Regulatory

  • What security measures surround the design of a new cosmetic product?

What security measures surround the design of a new cosmetic product?

The commercialization of a cosmetic product is subject to very strict legal framework. The rules governing the products are made both by French and European Legislators. These rules are constantly updated in light of scientific advances.

The active ingredients used are regulated by the European “Cosmetics” Directive which determines the conditions upon which certain substances may be used and their concentration. This Directive also provides a list of forbidden substances.

Each new product, before it is put on the consumer market, must be accompanied by a report which describes each aspect of the products. This report is regularly updated and is made available to the French health authorities. Several independent scientific committees (French, European, American..) evaluate regularly the compliance of a cosmetic product with the safety standards.

In case of a doubt whether a cosmetic product satisfies the safety standards, the French health authorities can at any time order the withdrawal of the product from the consumer market.

Where and how are Laboratoires Didier Rase’s products made?

All our products are made and prepared in France by accredited laboratories located in the area of Paris.

Are the products tested on animals?

No, none of our products are tested on animals. The European “Cosmetic” Directive clearly forbids animal testing since September 2004.
